This is a simple, handy web map (friendly for mobile devices too) that helps you figure out how to ride your bike to transit.
It lets you view transit stops, routes, and real-time bus/train positions alongside bike routes. You can also tap transit stops for basic information.
This new version of the site was made with MapBox, Leaflet, and TileMill. Base map & bicycle route data derived from OpenStreetMap, transit info from TriMet.
Targeted demographic (who is the app intended for?):
Transit users, people who ride bikes
Who and what will be impacted by the app, and how?:
Hopefully it will help you figure out your own way around a little easier without pulling up several different maps.
What is the specific need that is addressed by the app?:
It is rare to find bike routes (especially from OpenStreetMap) displayed on the same map as transit route and stop information.
Anticipated usage of the app (by whom, under what circumstances, etc)?:
Web app that works pretty well on mobile devices too.
How is information presented, that's not presented elsewhere; how is it unique?:
What are a few of the primary strengths of the design?:
Uses open data, simple design.
Discussion
The web page exists, but no map is rendered as of this writing.
I was probably updating it at the time. Everything should be working now!
The map doesn't appear to render in IE8. It's not happy with the call to "OpenLayers.map" Webpage error details User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Timestamp: Tue, 1 Feb 2011 21:20:12 UTC Message: Object doesn't support this property or method Line: 49 Char: 2 Code: 0 URI: http://saxbarm.geos.odin.pdx.edu/myfinalmap.html
Hi all, Unfortunately the original site stopped working after they took a map server offline at PSU. I've recently re-created a basic version of the site using MapBox, Wax, and TileMill, which you can find at http://home.comcast.net/~saxbarm/bike-transit-map.html
Sorry, one more move. http://pdxmele.github.com/PDX-bike-transit-map/
The features of this micro websites app are best for users. Now rider can easily find the right way and address where they need to go.
