It would be cool to make a GPS app that would tell you where parking spots were available downtown. I was thinking you could either use an ID tag on the vehicles that would be read curbside, or upgrade the meter boxes where you pay with the spot number you will be parking at. I'm sure there are other possibilities, but those are the ones I have right now. It sure would beat driving around in circles, wasting gas and polluting Portland's air!

**I noticed this part wasn't written very clearly: "upgrade the meter boxes where you pay with the spot number you will be parking at". What I meant is you would key in the parking spot number you were parking at into the meter box where you pay.

I think this would pair well with the Parking Smarter app suggestion (http://www.civicapps.org/ideas/parking-smarter). As long as the app knew how many spots each meter held, you could specify open spaces by meter.
