This App will locate the nearest METRO's recycling camp and recycling center for an item. It will help homeowners to avoid a drive to far away recycling centers for hard to recycle items such as paint or electronics.

The App will present all the recycling options that are available, by matching the item, location and time (e.g. show me all nearby locations where I can recycle a TV this weekend?). This idea will require access to additional data from Metro about the recycling camps and centers.

The contributor of this idea is the Oregon chapter of the Alumni association of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).

Similar input from the staff of Bureau of Planning and Sustainability: Locate nearby public recycling containers (standard on street as well as processors of less common recyclables—block polysterene, plastic bags, etc.). Locate stores/organizations where you can reuse, repair, share, or maintain goods. Also accesses garbage, recycling, and yard debris/food scrap pick-up schedule for a specific Portland address.

Metro has an online find a recycler tool, see http://www.oregonmetro.gov/index.cfm/go/by.web/id=1383/level=2

I put this comment on don't trash me app, but it belongs here. I don't think we need an app to find a recycling bin, but I'd sure like a recycle everything guide. Like enter the thing you've got a find out where to put it/take it. There is too much generality in most lists. Where do fluorescent lights go? Clear plastic jars used for snacks? Blister pack packaging? Plastic screw-on lids? Electric wire? I want one place to enter an item and have it tell me blue bin, green bin, trash, recycle center, whatever.
