I have some expertise with Apache Hadoop and was wondering if I could use it in processing the datasets which are made available here. I am mainly looking at Addresses, business license and crime reports data sets. I plan to cluster the crime reports and recommend areas which are less susceptible to crime. I am running short of ideas. If anybody can give me some more interesting ideas involving other data sets, I will be able to implement them using Hadoop. My main goal here is to use Hadoop on the real world data sets and develop something useful for the common man.

I saw that you are looking at addresses and business licensing data sets. Could there be a way to use Hadoop to see what kind of real estate is available for sale? I'm not sure if you have access to that information in particular, but that could be very useful for the "common man" that you said you were looking for. People could use Hadoop to see property for sale that they might be interested in. Just an idea!
